About the Videos

Background about these videos

I have been a father my entire life. From my first daughter in the mid 80s to my 11th child due at the end of 2016, my life has full of children of all ages.  The magic of childhood is, curiosity, a natural desire to learn, explore, understand. Children come with an intense curiosity of the world they find themselves in. From a newborn reaching out with a determined young finger to touch mommies face, to a teenager  shoulder deep in books trying to answer a question for no reason other than "to understand"... curiosity drives the heart of man.

Somewhere along the path, the american education industry lost its way. What began as a manner of feeding that natural curiosity became a mechanical avalanche of mere facts hammered into memory in order to pass a test. The focus shifted from feeding a child what they need to forcing them to conform to some state mandated achievement of fact memorization. Understanding, as a skill and a goal, was pushed out. Curiosity was pushed aside. Autonomous children, naturally intent on understanding their world, became machines to be manipulated on a schedule to achieve non child related goals.

Yet, as a parent all my life, there is one common thread with ALL children, and that is questions. "Daddy, why is the sky blue?", "Daddy how does a car move?", "Daddy, what are clouds?".  Questions are the fabric of childhood.

Instead of hammering unwanted facts into a child, how much better to feed their natural curiosity at the pace that words can become understanding? Instead of pushing the child to the point of burnout, learning becoming a job to get done and move on, encourage curiosity by feeding it the answers sought, by meeting the needs of the child's minds to give them a sense of purpose, fulfillment, peace with their world.

That is what these videos are all about.. that constant heart felt question "Daddy, why is....".

These videos are about answering that question, just enough to ignite a passion for more questions without overloading the child with more than they can handle.  Basic principles of life, the world we are in, human nature, basic skills, these are the foundations that children seek naturally.

The topic is less important, becasue eventually all topics will be touched. Questions arise from daily life, and should be answered as part of daily life, not some professor's schedule or some government decided curriculum.  Children need answers when and where they need them, on their schedule, to their level.

So, these videos are an actual recording of answering our children's questions on a wide variety of topics. These are not college courses, they are not preschool books, this is a father's heart to adequately answer the question "Daddy, why is...".
